• Improving the Nokia Browser

I’m a big fan and a religious user of the new Nokia browser. Its really great at accurately rendering HTML/XHTML web pages (although RAM consumption could be lower :D). However, I do think that there is still a lot of scope for improvement to get it on par with PC - based browsers. The following is a (short) list of some features that I feel should be a part of the Nokia browser.

1. Enable T9 when typing in a url in the Bookmarks menu: I absolutely hate it when I have to enter a long address by typing it in manually.
2. A set of combo shortcuts (like Ctrl + Enter in Windows) to add commonly used suffixes to urls.
3. The ability to move storage of temporary files to MMC: How many times has it happened that you wanted to download a 5mb audio file through the web page, but couldn’t, as you didn’t have enough free phone memory (even though your mmc might have 1GB free). If it were possible to shift the storage to mmc (like how its possible for Messaging), it’d be great!
4. Storing passwords: I access my university’s wi-fi through the phone all the time and entering my 14 character long password to establish a new session (about 4 times a day, on average) is quite irritating. The fact that I have a long name and the N91’s keypad doesn’t really help. (Seems like this feature is going to be added in FP1!!)

• The new T9 … XT9

Tegic Communications, the company which holds patents on the popular T9 text input system have now developed XT9, an improved version of the T9 system. The key new features include T9 availability for QWERTY, half-QWERTY and touch-based keypads, easier switching between text modes and auto-error correction. It’d be awesome if Nokia shipped the new E-series models with XT9.

Nokia Video Center Preview

A very interesting thing to note in the preview, the person said that only those videos compatible with your device are listed in the Video Center. So does that mean that only certain specific youtube videos are going to be viewable on the device? There was no mention of a search feature within the app that would allow users to search and download specific videos. If that’s the case, it sounds more like a youtube videocast, rather than full-fledged youtube support.
