Netvibes2Go - Netvibes Mobile

Netvibes has launched a mobile version of the netvibes homepage. the page can be accessed at http://m.netvibes.com

Create a ‘mobile’ tab using the web interface first and add the content viewable on the mobile phone.

Somehow, this product failed to impress me. I’ve been a netvibes user in the past and I liked the modular structure of their web product. However, the mobile product is nothing like its web counterpart. The features like iCal addition and Weather tabs are good, particularly the email retrieval feature, but they aren’t really lucrative, particularly for most smartphone users.
The current layout makes you scroll too much, since the feeds are displayed in its entirety. I wish they’d atleast adopt a Google Reader - like layout:

It would help a lot, imo.

If I were part of the netvibes team, I would definitely take a look at WidSets. Widsets currently offers modularity similar to the web product that netvibes offers.

The N91 is one of the best Symbian devices I have owned. Its music capabilities in particular are quite amazing. It has replaced my Creative Zen Touch as the mp3 player of choice.
Surprisingly, I’ve noticed that my actual phone usage has gone down. Its about a 15 min walk to campus for me and I remember taking a lot of photos and shooting whilst walking through the campus when I used my 6620. My hands would immediately reach out into my pocket and the Camera/Video Recorder would turn on and snap! But lately, ever since I started using the N91 as an mp3 player, I’ve almost stopped clicking photos and videos!! My guess is that it s due to the fact that it takes a long time to de-attach the phone (with remote and all) and then re-attach it again.

I’ve also noticed that I no longer spend as much time on the phone as I used to. My BT headset, which I’ve used a lot for calling was just lying around unused for the past two weeks.

To test out my theory, I’m actually going to try to not use my phone as an mp3 player for the next few days.

Get your Nokia Press news via RSS

Nokia does not have RSS feeds for their press releases (and most of their events ;)) to which we can subscribe. Well, I decided to do something about it. So I made my own Nokia Press RSS feed :D.

I used an online service called as FeedYes in order to create a feed from the Nokia Press Page. Then I used Yahoo pipes to filter out the unwanted stuff leaving only the Press releases in the feed.

I’ve published this feed, so everyone can subscribe to it.

Link to feed

I’m trying to create more. Another one that I’ve created is a feed for techeblog’s cell phones category (since techeblog has a single feed, no individual feeds per category). I know a lot of fellow bloggers like Stefan from Ring Nokia refer to techeblog’s article for cell phones.
The feed can be found here.

This is my first attempt at all of this. Hope you guys like it. :)

From the article at SearchEngineWatch:

Here’s a roundup of the mobile search interfaces for some of the web’s most popular shopping sites. The boldfaced links navigate to each service’s primary web interface. The other links offer mobile access via web-enabled phone or other handheld device, typically with slimmed-down interfaces designed for smaller displays.

Amazon.com

Mobile interface at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/h.html or
http://www.amazon.com/access.

More Amazon:

Become.com

The main url http://www.become.com does a nice job of detecting browsers from mobile devices, so there’s no special URL for mobile access.

eBay

Mobile interface at: http://wap2.bonfiremedia.com/

Froogle

Mobile interface at: http://wml.froogle.com or via SMS
http://www.google.com/mobile/sms/index.html.

Frucall

Frucall is a new free service that brings you Internet shopping when you are in a store or on the street. Frucall does not need any software downloads to your phone, or SMS data plans. I covered Frucall briefly in a ResourceShelf mention, and ComparisonEngines.com ran an interview with Frucall’s CEO.
